WEBSITE IS ONLINE!!!

The website is renewed and online!
It took a while and I've not finished placing all the articles but it's a start and I hope you'll enjoy!
For now only the Dutch version is online, but you can use the Google translator. Later I will translate the text in English, but it will not be this year.

For all the dutch people, if you find something incorrect, if you suggestions, please let me know!

Enjoy!

Update website - Munrobagging

Scotland May 2010 - Day 9

This blog is written from Dalwhinnie, the only place above Stirling where you can drink a good cup of coffee!
But about yesterday here some facts:
  • Walked distance = 32,50 km
  • Time started = 6.50
  • Time finished = 22.30
  • Total time = 15h40m
  • Meters ascent = 6896m
  • Total number of Munros = 10
It started with a good night on beautifull spot. After an eggs and bacon breakfast we started the walk during a cold morning but with a blue sky! The approching walk of 4 km was wonderfull. Along glens where parts of the Braveheart movie are filmed.

The Mamores are well know as a great range of mountains. Normally you can climb all Munros with three different routes in three days. To walk all Munros is an outrageous performance...and that's what we like!
Everything went well but after 5 Munros, Henry has to quit because of feet problems. So bye bye Henry, I will see you at the car later!

The weather was outstanding for a walk like this; sometimes cloudy and then sunny with a fresh wind!
The legs where working hard but has never been tired just up to Stob Ban the 9th Munro. After Stob Ban I had to walk a very long way to the last one and I had to vomite my stomach empty. I think because of a combination of cold wind, fatigue, and melting water! So the legs where empty! But still going strong!
The sun gave me a lot of satisfaction and nice shots!

The descent was very hard because I don't like walking down. But the music of Wolfstone on my iPhone gave me a lot of strenght!
Just before dark I reached the end of the journey and there was Henry waiting for me.

Now we are heading for Crieff. Today we will enjoy the good weather and some Geocaching.

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 8

Today I walked the Mamores Munros... all10! It's an incredible walk. But now I'm in bed because I'm broken and tomorrow we will place more about this adventure! Now I'm too tyred! Ok just a picture of me on the 10th Munro!

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 7

Disaster!!! From 3.00 am to 4.00 am the unexpected happens: rain, rain and rain!
We slept very well but all the stuff was wet. Temperature went under 0 Celsius.
At 4.00 am we also meet the Moutain Rescue Squad that found two walkers that where lost all night around An Terlaich and beyond! This two walkers where yesterday just behind us and we wondered why they started that late. They looked exausted!
We decided to give it a try because the weather forecast was positive with 60% cloudless Cuillin.
Henry, Sherpa, walked down with all the equipment and I started the climb to Sguur Nan Eag. Everything went well just before the ridge and then weather became worser and worser. I reached the summit of Sgur Nan Eag and just below Caisteal a'Gar I had to stop my run because I could not see anything through my wet glasses and the rocks where to slippery for my running shoes!

On our way back to mainland I was happy with my decision because the summits still where not cloudless!
    Next time better!

We dryed our sleeping bags on a Bounty like beach in the very hot sun! Thinking about the fact that normally I had to walk on a cold and wet ridge at the moment!

Now we are at Fort William in company of a good pint of local ale!

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 6

Today it's the day where we will approach the Cuillin Ridge.
We will spend the night at Loch Coir' a' Ghrunnda and after a early sleep the Traverse will start.
The walk was great and the Loch is amazing.
The weather conditions are excellent and we really hope that tomorrow it's the same!
After a good dinner and some scrambling excercise we decided to go asleep in our bivi's.

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 5

Today we have a day of rest... at least Henry hope so but you never know if you go on holiday with me!
We have slept at a very nice B&B at Sconer on the island of Skye.

After some bacon, sausages, mushrooms, toasts, etc etc, we will head to Portree, a very nice harbour village.
In the evening we will drive just to Glenbrittle to prepare ourselfs for the biggest adventure: The Cuillin Traverse in one day!
Henry will just walk to the first mountain and then he walks back. He's got a big blister and it's to painfull to walk. Yesterday we walked almost the whole Five Sisters ridge but because of the blister he walked back halfaway.

The weather is Scottisch good, so not much of sun but dry and warm!

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 4

Quick message from Sgurr na Ciste. It's going great!

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 3

We spended the night at the shores of an idyllic small river with an old ancient bridge overlooking the mighty Munros. Henry slept in the tent and I in the hammock. It was a short night for me: I could not sleep because it was really cold, that's the only negatieve point of the hammock due of the fact that the wind blows beneath me... Henry had no problems at all!
We started with a good Dutch breakfast: musli and dutch coffee and after a while we drove at our starting point.
Good walking weather with cloudy summits and sunny valleys are welcoming us.
The first part was very steep and long but after our first Munro, A'Chralaig, it's easy and flatty. Only near the second summit, Mullach Fraoch-Choire, we had nice pinnacles with some scrambling.
Now we lie on our bed in a B&B in Shiel Bridge thinking of the day of tomorrow!

    Scotland May 2010 - Day 2

Today was our first day walking. After a short night we woke up at 6.15am near Spear Bridge. We drived to Little Chef for a filling Scottisch breakfast and after some groceries we drived all the way to Loch Cluanie.
At 9.30 we started our first walk of the week. The weather was cold but there was no wind and the summits where hidden in the clouds.
After two Munros (Carn Gluasaid and Sgurr nan Conbhairenan) even the sun started to break out through the clouds and themperature rises as fast as we climbed the last Munros (Sail Chaorainn).
It was a great starting day with the purpose to climb Munros but also to warm up our legs for comming days... and it was Henry his first Munros! Hip hip hoera!

    The Cuillin Ridge

I hope in April to be able to walk the Cuillin Ridge in one day. That's only possible if the weather conditions will be favorable. The body conditions are ok, the skills are also not a problem.
The ones who doesn't know what The Cuillin Ridge means: it's the hardest en longest Climbing Experience in the UK!
The most exciting part of my effort is that I've never been on the Cuillin Ridge before so I'm trying to prepare myself with all kind of information. I've the best material now: MapSource of the UK with topografic maps, the Guide of Andy Hyslop one of the fastest walkers on the Ridge, Google Earth and some videos.
Reading maps and orienteering is one my jobs, so I think it will be a great challenge and that's why I like it much more.
Yesterday I've tryed to mark all the summits and delicate parts of the Ridge, so now I've a good track for in my GPS.
I'm really looking forward for this fantastic challenge! I've also placed the GPX and GDB file of the Cuillin Ridge below, so if there is somebody who look at it and give comments... thanks!

    Cuillin Ridge (gpx file)
    Cuillin Ridge (gdb file)

Instructions GPX file: save the page as a .gpx file. Now you can open it with programs like MapSource or put in your GPS.

    Preparations Munrobagging Scotland April

In April I've planned a nice holiday in the Scottish mountains. I'm already started a few weeks ago with the preparations. This will be the... I really don't know anymore but I think the 15th time that I've been in Scotland but this time it will be a very special one. I'm not going just to climb and munrobagging but I'm planning to make long and exhausting walks.
The great thing of Munrobagging is not only the walking or the fact of being in Scotland but it starts already here in Holland where I've plenty of information on my desk and on my computer about Scotland and in particular the Munros. GPS tracks, maps, YouTube video's, the Munro Magic website, and so on! I listen to Wolfstone and some times I nip at a little glass of Scottish Whisky and there I am... the Scottish Highlands!

In April I will start at Glen Shiel just to warm up my legs: Sgurr Fhuaran (for the second time), Sgurr na Carnach and Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe. After that the other Glen Shiel Munros: Saileag, Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg, Aonach Mheadhoin and Ciste Dhubh. If I have the time maybe I will enjoy also the beautyfull The Saddle and Sgurr na Sgine.
After the Glen Shiel Munros and depending of the weather I will try to attend the whole Cuillins range in one day! I've got a good video of the traverse thanks to David Galsworthy of BigWalksClub Scotland and the best guide on paper written by Andy Hyslop!
After that I wil take just a day rest at Fort Williams so that I'm ready to walk the whole Mamores range in one day (9 munros). I've studied the ridge with the Google Earth 3-d views and it looks awesome and with an exceptional beauty!
    I really can't wait!
